The Congressional Black Caucus Tours the Nation to Try to Help People Find Jobs

Nine hundred and thirty-one (931) days. Two years, six months, 20 days – give or take a few. That’s how much time has passed since President Barack H. Obama stepped into the White House Oval Office and took his seat at the Resolute desk as President of the United States, pen in hand.

August 2011 – the Congressional Black Caucus comes out of Washington, DC with a “Jobs Tour” to address the glaring and more than obvious jobs gap and wealth factors between the black and white communities. Problem is, the black community was already in a hard recession – losing jobs and homes by the thousands when he arrived – before most of white America ever felt the vibrations of the coming economic earthquake. But as the old saying goes: Better late than never.

That is what the ten American mothers — including African-American mom Karen Walrond — learned on their trip to Kenya. This group of mommy bloggers is a part of the ONE campaign. The mission of their trip was to be able to share with the moms in the U.S. what moms in Kenya face with challenges such as HIV, malaria, and famine.

YOU WANT TO GET MARRIED. It’s taken a while to admit it. Saying it out loud — even in your mind — feels kind of desperate, kind of unfeminist, kind of definitely not you, or at least not any you that you recognize. Because you’re hardly like those girls on TLC saying yes to the dress and you would never compete for a man like those poor actress-wannabes on THE BACHELOR.

We expect a lot from athletes, from little leagues to professionals. We expect athletes to perform at high levels, entertaining us with their physical ability and amazing us with their talent. Unfortunately, we don’t expect athletes to be just like us, human. We put athletes on a pedestal making them celebrities and above the normal rules of life. This process starts at an early age. It could be at a pee wee football or soccer game. Our projections, that athletes are special, unique and gifted starts when they are young and continues as they develop their abilities and get older.

The Arrogance of Being President While Black

The author of this piece is unknown, but many believe that he is a white male.  It’s interesting, please take a look.

I don’t think anyone was under some real illusion that the election of Barack Obama actually means the end of racism in America . I’m pretty sure that the president-elect knew it better than anyone. After all, he saw it every day, from the moment he announced his candidacy. To some degree, he saw it within his own party during the primaries. And he saw it in all ugliness during the general election. For half of this country, he was "That One". No matter how big and clear his victory was. No matter how smart he is. No matter how decent he is. No matter what a true patriot he is. No matter how optimistic and positive his vision for America was. All that didn’t matter. Because at the end of the day, he was still black.

In 1827 a group of black businessmen were fed up with the negative depictions of African-Americans in their local newspapers, so they decided to start their own. A few months later America’s first, ‘race’ newspaper was born. At the helm were two young black men; 28 year old college graduate John Russwurm and 32 year old preacher  Samuel Cornish. Freedom’s Journal, as it was called, made certain every article and editorial had a deliberate slant that showed blacks in a positive light with dignity and class. Cornish and Russwurm knew they not only had to report the news but they had to inspire as well. Any news worthy item involving "Africans" was to be included.

Vote: It’s what our ancestors fought, and died, for.

…even if we take away America’s credit rating. He stays on message, even if he has to shift gears from time to time.

The one thing we’ve seen is that he maneuvers very well in opposition traffic. Though some of his moves have been about as frightening as jumping on a roller coaster while it’s moving, especially considering all of those who keep trying to derail him and get him off-message, the one thing I’ve notice since I jumped on the campaign coaster in mid-2007 is that he keeps saying the same thing over and over, ad nauseum. And the opposition? Well, they apparently are threatening to make the President look bad in the public eye, even to the point where they will kill themselves to get it done. It’s very personal for them, and he’s not letting them go there, and it’s driving them mad. With the President, I noticed, as long as you don’t mess with his wife, his girls, his aunt, his grandma in Kenya, his mother-in-law, or with Bo-bama, he’s fine. That gets his dander up and he’s not so Mr. Cool any more.
