A Beer for Your Thoughts
You can make fun of me for being a goody two shoes, but I’ve never finished a beer in my entire life. I am, however, willing to drink a beer with President Obama if that will open the door to an honest conversation on race relations in America.
President Obama’s announcement that he will get together today with Dr. Henry Louis Gates and Sgt. James Crowley for a beer sounds, honestly, like a bit of political posturing from a man who is trying to reverse the stain of tremendous embarrassment. But like a political pro, the president is getting chummy with police departments across the nation, and this will help him recover from his own "George Bush moment," in which he attacked the Cambridge Police Department while admittedly not knowing all the facts.
Perhaps the first beer in the White House will turn into a second and a third. People let it all hang out when they get drunk, so maybe open bottles of beer will encourage the three parties involved to have an honest dialogue on race. In fact, why don’t the rest of us drink a beer too? The American racial conversation should not only include three people behind closed doors, it should include all of us.

OBAMA IS A SMOOTH OPERATOR, SO THE BEER DIDN’T SURPRISE ME. IT’S NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING A SIT DOWN GROWN-UP MAN TO MAN, PEOPLE DO IT EVERY DAY AT THE FAMILY BAR-B-QUE. DRINK UP!!!
This whole concept is a bunch of bullshit plain and simple!
Every year we talk about having a conversation about race and where does it go? Nowhere that’s where. You want to know why?
Because out of either actual ignorance or feigned ignorance the parties involved don’t deal with the fact that this country was built upon free Black labor.
It was built upon the premise that we’re inferior and to always be treated as such.
That we have no rights that any white man is bound to respect.
We were dragged to these shores against our collective want and will to serve the white master and build his kingdom all the while we were to never enjoy the fruits of our labor.
The police are a byproduct of all of this–the modern day overseers if you will.
They beat, shoot, kill and maim us and what is our best response? A damn march or calls to talk radio.
We’re a powerless people acting like powerless people typically would. So we’re NOT some equal opportunity offender as a white officer or any white supremacist can ever be.
We can never do or get away with doing to them what they’ve always done to us so there need not be any moderator for such a discussion.
It’s our job to build each other up and to restore Us and it’s up to whites to clean up their filthy house–not ours.
It’s not our job to birth into them a conscious. We’ve spent decades doing that to no avail so why continue?
