Michael Vick Thinks He Can Make a Comeback

Michael Vick’s plan to climb out of bankruptcy partly depends on the suspended star suiting up again for the NFL after he gets out of prison.

The embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback is hoping to earn as much as $10 million a year or more, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Under the plan he submitted to the court, Vick would keep the first $750,000 of his annual income over the next five years. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale.

Vick, who is nearing the end of a 23-month federal prison sentence for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy, could learn the fate of his bankruptcy plan this week. Bankruptcy Judge Frank J. Santoro is set to consider whether to confirm the plan at a hearing starting Thursday in Newport News, Va. Last week, Vick left federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., for transport to Virginia for the hearing.

In a March 4 court filing, Vick’s attorneys say he “has every reason to believe upon his release, he will be reinstated into the NFL, resume his career and be able to earn a

substantial living.”

“He is hopeful to play quarterback,” Daniel Meachum, an attorney and business manager for Vick, said in an interview. “There is no person with his talent in that position in all the league.”

I for one am certain that Michael Vick can make a comeback, but the question is “Will he play QB or Slash?” I think Vick’s natural athletic talents can make him productive in the NFL. He’s always had the ability to run and see the field, but as a standard QB he didn’t measure up to his fullest potential. As a “Slash”, he can be a tremendous asset to the Rams, the Redskins, the Vikings, the Seahawks, the Jets and Dallas. Mike Vick did his time “Dawg.” Like it or not, the man’s got to have the right to make a living before he goes into the booth. America loves an underdog. Mike Vick will do wonders for the sale of Milkbone Dog Biscuits outside of Cleveland. Trust me on this one…”His talent can’t keep him off the field.” If he can’t run 4.4 then they will show him the door. Mike Vick is now “Exploitable.” He puts butts in seats and touchdowns on the board.

African Americans generally speaking, do not have the same level of love and appreciation for dags as whites do. Let me explain: My recollection of dogs in general was that they were used to track down African American who might have been locked up for whistling at woman who would have welcomed the bite of a dog than the whistle of that man. Likewise, my experience with dogs during the civil rights movement, were that god were used to bite us for trying to sid down to have a lousy hamburger and a coke.

Having said this, I do not excuse Michael because that’s the law, however, I think Vick has the right to earn a living just as would those white collar criminals who rob without a gun, and move to Florida upon being reprimanded to live rich and happy forever.

I think he has paid his dues for making the mistake that he did, and that he deserves a chance to go back out and play football again. Now, I’m not sure if it’s fair for him to go back into the same position, but I do think he is an awesome player, and he deserves a second chance to back to the sport that he is so good in. Heck, there are people that has committed crimes so much worse than that and have gone back to their lavish lifestyles. Please don’t misunderstand me, it was wrong, but again he has paid for it, let’s move on!

People…let’s not pull any punches here in fear of the crime that Vick committed. He paid his dues and that’s it. Why create a double standard for this talented Black man just because he’s a QB? He could run faster and think quicker than defenses in the NFL. His skills transferred into millions and billions of dollars. If those skills are half of what they were before he paid his dues, then Vick can still make millions if he keeps his nose clean. The only person who can defeat Mike Vick is Mike Vick or God may have another plan for his life.

He should be allowed to make a living when he gets out. The strange part about this is how impassioned white people are about him losing all of his rights. Where is that passion when the cops deliberately kill an innocent black human being ?

This issue is truly turning into a much larger issue of racial equality. We have a black man in the White House, but the double standards continue. Only we, the fans, can create the groundswell that will aid in returning Mike Vick to professional football,in any capacity, whether it be QB or SLASH. Perhaps the vaunted NFLPA, can take a look at providing these young men with mentors,so that these repeated bad decisions can be reduced or handled in a more professional manner.
