The Florida Federation of Republican Women made the decision to boycott the Oprah Winfrey Show Saturday, after the media mogul refused to have Gov. Sarah Palin as a guest on her show until after the election wraps up.
‘Women in Florida helped build Oprah into the icon she is today,’ Linda Ivell, President of the FFRW said in a statement. ‘We are deeply disappointed in Ms. Winfrey’s decision to sit out the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage.’
The talk show host denied accusations Friday, that she was even considering the vice presidential nominee as a guest.
‘At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a plat for any of the candidates,’ Winfrey wrote in a statement, responding to a story from The Drudge report claiming her staff was ’sharply divided’ on whether they should book the Alaska Governor.
Winfrey agreed Palin would be a ‘fantastic interview,’ but wouldn’t invite her on until after the November elections.
The Florida Federation of Republican Women, the ‘largest political organization in Florida,’ celebrating the groups 58 year anniversary is also encouraging members to cancel subscriptions to O Magazine, Ivell said.

I’m not the biggest Oprah fan, but suggesting that Sarah Palin is the coronation of the “greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage,” is as much a stretch as the claim that McCain is a feminist-advocate. Come off of it GOP!…. By the way, Oprah did get herself into this mess by publicly advertising Sen. Obama, so I’m not sure how effervescent to be about agreeing with Ms. Winfrey.
Governor Palin is the FIRST WOMAN to be nominated as Vice Presidential Nominee of the Republican Party in its entire existence.
Hello that is a big deal. Obama, the media and its supporters made a big deal about Obama being the Presidential Nominee for the Democratic Party. Hello! They hyped it up, made us talk about the significance of it.
People’s SEXISM is really showing, especialy with Oprah. What is sad, she has always made it about Women in her 20 years of existence with her TV show.
Oprah’s problem is impartiality and objectivity. Pride comes before fall. Look at Phil Donahue. He had 20 years in the business, but thought he was too high and mighty.
Now, her CONSUMER BASE is hearing the cry and rallying to have her off the air. I know she owns other things. But, when I look at Jay-Z after he left Def Jame, he fell off in the money by about 50% in earnings.
I hope she knows what she is doing. She might have the effect like Black Wallstreet in the 1900’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma real soon.
I will bet that these are the same people who quit watching Oprah because she supports Obama. I am not a Oprah fan, but congrats to her for standing up on principles. She stated that her show would not be used as a platform for either party and she is keeping her word. The Repubs do have Fox News. Let her go there.
